Oktavia Schreiner

was born in 1991 in Salzburg and grew up in Berlin, Rome and Linz. She has a Master's in Fine Art from the University of Art and Design, Linz. In 2015 Oktavia undertook a six month internship with artist Nicole Wermers in London. In 2016 she travelled to Japan for a month's study trip, followed by a month-long residency at the Genesee Centre for the Arts in Rochester, New York. Oktavia graduated with a Master of Letters in Fine Art Practice from the Glasgow School of Art in 2018. She is currently living in Glasgow where she is a studio member at the Glasgow Sculpture Studios. 

Schreiner is a visual artist working in ceramic and wood to produce large-scale painted sculptures. Using the characteristics and strength of her materials, she engages in a mainly process-based approach to making art. With clay she builds classical forms and creates interactions between them and their wooden structures. The images she paints and scratches onto and into the clay and wood are imaginative and playful. The sculptures are as fragile as they are monumental and engage with the mental and physical relationship we have to objects and space.
