March,  6 - 9

VOLTA NY was introduced stateside as a partner to the prestigious Armory Show. Both fairs work closely together, sharing VIP programs, panel discussions and shuttle buses.

This year we show works by

born 1962 in Buende/Westfalen

In her paintings Elisabeth Sonneck combines minimalistic pictorial concepts with colouristic experiments. Her perception of colour as an unstable essence, whose effect is ultimately dependent on the colour of its surroundings, references the oeuvre of Josef Albers.
Her colour rhythms are the direct result of the precise physical and manual action of painting. Subtle nuances in the colours are revealed, in which the conciously reduced painterly gesture emphasizes the temporal process of the painting’s emergence.
For almost a decade, Elisabeth Sonneck has developed numerous site-specific works, which reflect the particularities of the respective sites and transform them into colour spaces; room paintings as well as extensive colour-installations. Recent works also include rolls of paper, whose form is determined by the tension within the material, and which situate themselves between painting, object and sculpture.
