A Moving Intercontinental Collaboration
this body of work represents development of the relationship between two artists from Austria and the United States. . each traveled to the home country visiting and experiencing the life of each other as both a personal view into their lives as artists as well as the country where each lives in.
the work is in response to the physical conditions wherein each worked and the emotional state each experienced alone in a new country and how they became to relate to each other as professionals.
ms. Gellis found herself lost in Austria trying to find her way back to
birgit and her home...photographing her reflection in various windows of train stations and shops along the Vienna streets. the reflections position her body as a fleeting object, disappearing and dissolving into the landscape, as metaphor to her feelings as an insignificant physical form penetrating the existing space.
both use photography as a tool to record the way each observe - see the everyday world and their respective place within it.
Birgit Sauer's work is about the interaction between the perception
inside and outside – the permanent changing
truth – the perpetual travel.
