Josef DANNER

Originally associated with the abstract line of the „Junge Wilde“ painting style, Josef Danner’s work as a painter, writer and graphic artist as well as a designer of poster installations in public space developed towards an increasingly conceptual practice. Continuously, text elements are being incorporated in his visual work. Instead of „nature“ socially produced myths and their media representation in language and image become the point of departure of reflection.
By using new technical media and sampling image material, he creates a personal universe challenging the viewer by surprising combinations of image and language in a quasi “surrealistic” way. The “virtual pictures” attained that way may again become the starting point for transformations in painting and drawing or expand the spectre of “painting” directly as print graphics.
Thus, Danner’s originally pictorial technics such as painting and drawing are not being abandoned, but continuously gain new ground
