Installation view: Josef Danner, "updown", 2009, Brunnhofer Gallery
Every day a huge fund of highly emotional, over-thrilled pictures is attending our mind. In 2001 Danner started to collect, scan and then abstract these images by means of various computer software. He achieved to create archetypical agglomerations. In this context the character of the firefighter, as an “apocalyptical hero and “guardian angel” in case of catastrophes, became the most central topic of his work.
“I started to paint a series on this topic, whereas I was interested in the tensions between the technical precision of the computerised pictures on the one hand and the pathos of the expressively painted images on the other.” (Danner)
